‘Dances With Films’ Festival #DWF17 World Premiere of THE JAZZ FUNERAL

An estranged father and son reunite in the intoxicating city of New Orleans for a friend’s funeral where they bury the scars of the past and heal the wounds of the present in order to let go and move on.

 

The Jazz Funeral is based on a true story, directed by Jesse Rosen.

SYNOPSIS: Billy is struggling to save the on-again, off-again relationship with his live-in girlfriend, Emily when he gets a call from his father, another on-again, off-again relationship.  Often controlling and always overbearing, his father has bought a ticket for Billy to join him in New Orleans for the funeral of a close family friend.  But the struggling musician can’t:  He has to stay in town for a possible meeting with a London-based producer which could be his big break.

 

His father insists he join him in the city that holds so much family history.  Billy grudgingly boards a plane and heads to the Big Easy.  Once there, Billy and his father open up to each other slowly and reluctantly share their women problems.  Both men are in bad relationships and can’t let go.  Eventually, they get to the center of their own rocky past and things heat up.

 

When Billy misses his only chance to meet with the producer because he in New Orleans, he blames his father for this, and everything else that has gone wrong with his life leading up to it.  They both struggle to find common ground and ultimately gain their footing, realizing that, despite their differences, they have more in common than either would like to admit.  Through it all, the two find a way to bury the past, work through the present, and forge ahead into an unpredictable yet promising future, side by side.

The Jazz Funeral is directed by Jesse Rosen and stars BOBBY CAMPO as “Billy,” JAMES MORRISON as “Nick” his father, and MAIARA WALSH as “Emily” his girlfriend, along with DEE WALLACE, RENE LE VANT and featuring New Orleans very own, REBRITH BRASS BAND.

Official Screen Credits and Music Entry Forms Due December 1 for 2011 Oscar®

Beverly Hills, CA – Thursday, December 1, is the deadline to submit official screen credits (OSC) and music submission forms to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 84th Academy Awards® consideration.

For a feature film to be considered for the 2011 Awards, the film’s distributor or producer must file an OSC form with the Academy by 5 p.m. PT on December 1. If a feature film is released in Los Angeles County in 2011 and the completed OSC form is not submitted by the deadline, the film will be ineligible for Academy Awards in any year.

OSC forms are available online only, at http://aiwosc.oscars.org/aiwosc/. Information about submission and feature film eligibility can be obtained by contacting Credits Coordinator Howard Loberfeld at (310) 247-3000, ext. 1113, or via e-mail at hloberfeld@oscars.org.

For an achievement to be considered in the Original Score or Original Song category, the principal music writer(s) for a feature film must submit an official music submission form and other materials by 5 p.m. PT on December 1.

While the credits submission deadline is December 1, feature films have until midnight, December 31, to open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days to be eligible for 2011 Oscar consideration.

Entries in the foreign language, animated feature, documentary, and short film categories are subject to special rules and must meet other qualifying criteria. The entry deadlines in these categories have already passed.

The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

This just "IN" : Academy Awards $455,000 to U.S. Film Festivals in 2012

Beverly Hills, CA – The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded $455,000 to 25 U.S. film festivals for the 2012 calendar year.

The Cleveland International Film Festival will be the recipient of a multiyear grant for its Focus on Filmmakers program. It will receive a total of $150,000 over a three-year period. The Chicago International Film Festival is in its second year of a multiyear grant, receiving $150,000 in total for its World Cinema Spotlight program.

While the grants are awarded for a variety of festival programs, organizers are encouraged to submit proposals intended to make festival events more accessible to the general public, provide greater access to minority and less visible filmmakers, and help strengthen the connection between filmmakers and the general public.
