'Fall To Rise' To Have World Premiere At First Time Fest

The Film, Starring Daphne Rubin-Vega to Premiere at AMC on April 5

NEW YORK, April 2, 2014 -- Fall to Rise starring Daphne Rubin-Vega will have its World Premiere at AMC Village 7, 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 5. The film was one of only ten stand-out films selected to be in competition at the highly sought-after First Time Festival.

Fall to Rise marks the feature directorial debut of Jayce Bartok. His feature screenwriting debut was The Cake Eaters, directed by Mary Stuart Masterson.
Fall to Rise, 92-minute drama, follows a renowned principal dancer (Katherine Crockett, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) whose injury forces her out of her company and motherhood soon follows. She struggles to return to dance and regain her identity outside of motherhood with the help of an unlikely mentor (Daphne Rubin-Vega, Smash). A timeless tale of re-invention and friendship with a distinctly New York flavor.

Bartok, the writer and director, partnered with producers Tiffany Bartok, Patrick Morris and Daniela Schrier Kafshi to create this visually stunning piece that uses New York City and the Baryshnikov Arts Center as its backdrop. The stellar cast was co-led by Katherine Crockett now appearing in Queen of the Night by the producers of Sleep No More and two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega, known best for originating Mimi Marquez in the Broadway musical Rent. The cinematographer is Kate Phelan and the film was edited by Alex Kopit and Ali Muney.

"There is absolutely nothing like making a film in New York City, where the city's energy infuses everything you create. For "Fall to Rise" we really tried to harness a lot of what makes the city so special. We staged the production at incredible, iconic locations, and worked with some of the most talented theater and film actors based right here in New York," said Jayce Bartok. "I am especially grateful to Daphne Rubin-Vega and Tamara Tunie who brought their acting gravitas to the film, and to Desmond Richardson and Katherine Crockett who's profoundly beautiful dancing elevated this film beyond my expectations. I am honored and humbled to be premiering at The First Time Fest in my hometown, a little place called Manhattan."
