Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies Present the 75th Anniversary of the Film Noir Classic as Part of the ‘TCM Big Screen Classics’ Series
DENVER (Feb. 8, 2016) — Frequently considered the first – and finest – example of film noir filmmaking in Hollywood, 1941’s classic THE MALTESE FALCON will cast its mysterious shadows on the silver screen once again on Feb. 21 and Feb. 24 as part of the Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) TCM Big Screen Classics series.

THE MALTESE FALCON will play in more than 650 theaters nationwide, offering longtime fans of the hard-boiled thriller, directed by John Huston, the rare chance to see it in theaters, while a new generation can discover the secrets of the infamous “black bird” by seeing it on the big screen for the first time.
Originally released on Oct. 3, 1941, as the nation braced itself for the possibility of war, THE MALTESE FALCON launched Huston’s directorial career with the story of high-living lowlifes who will stop at nothing to get their sweaty hands on a jewel-encrusted falcon. Detective Sam Spade, played by legendary Humphrey Bogart, wants to find out why – and who’ll take the fall for his partner’s murder.

Would you help destroy the demons of abuse?
Stephen Endelman has spent the last 20 years writing music for films and television in Hollywood. Now, he's working on his new project, The Boy, The Man, and His Kite, with which he hopes to shed some light on the effects of abuse, illness, and the healing qualities of art.
Stephen acknowledges that his life would not be what it is today were it not for his family and friends: "my 'supporters of life'" as he calls them. Without them, Stephen is convinced he would not have made it through his illness. Being on the verge of death, he knew he could not abandon his family and closest friends, thus he was able to slowly come out of his coma, and he lives his life very much alive and well.
With The Boy, The Man, and His Kite, Stephen has described its creation like this, "Creating a film on this subject has the potential to help so many people..." We at The "IN" Show are compelled to ask that you donate to Stephen's project. Just $5 or $10 would mean so much to the success of the endeavor. Even a tweet, a share, a like would make a difference; for we know the power that social media can have.
Here is Stephen's go-fund-me page: http://www.gofundme.com/aboyamanandhiskite. You will find listed various rewards for donation. Please, help Stephen effect change in the lives of others who have suffered and perhaps still are but gifting him the opportunity to get his story to all those who need to hear it.

Elegant Oscars Party At Magic Castle Pleases Celebrities And Fans Alike
The Academy Awards are undoubtedly the culmination of awards season in Hollywood every year. After the Golden Globes, the Grammys, and the plethora of other shows that honor those in the entertainment industry, the Oscars are seen as the last grand, exciting night for a red carpet extravaganza. Maybe it’s because the movies are like the opera in that every art form comes to life in a single masterpiece. Movies include everything, and so we save the best for last perhaps. Or maybe it’s because people all over the world are eagerly waiting to see what their favorite actresses are going to wear with the vain hope that they will one day buy one of those expensive dresses for themselves. Or maybe it’s because everyone is dying to determine just how bad the new Oscar host will flop no matter how hard he or she tries. After all, everyone realizes that only Billy Crystal can pull this one off. Right?Well, regardless of what the many great expectations for the Oscars may be, one thing is for sure: EVERYONE needs a PLACE TO BE on Academy Awards night, and we don’t mean the traffic! Such being the case, every year thousands of stars, fans and even media personnel are scrambling to find an ideal location to watch the show, get those nice photos, gain a little publicity for themselves or that upcoming project, or just have a good time. Oscar parties in Hollywood could be exciting and crowded with celebrities or just an intimate gathering. Unfortunately, somebody needs to get those reservations for the more impressive parties, and getting a ticket is not always easy. Stars and fans alike have to spend some serious time thinking about what ideal party they should be attending. Inside the Dolby Theater? Outside it? Elton John AIDS Benefit? Vanity Fair? Beverly Hills Hotel? Decisions, decisions…enough to sometimes drive one just as batty as navigating the many street closures plaguing the city.
Luckily, one group of entertainment industry professionals and movie enthusiasts have it all worked out - reserving the perfect spot for Oscar night. Every year, right across the street from the historic Kodak Theater (now the Dolby), they gather at The World Famous Magic Castle to watch the celebration LIVE on plasma screen televisions at the Castle’s Annual Oscars Viewing Party, a tribute to the Academy Awards and a reward for the Castle's many members. The elegant evening features a media covered red carpet, endless buffet dinner, viewing party of the Oscars, raffle prizes, giveaways, and, once the Oscars are over, the opportunity to travel upstairs in the venue and watch captivating magic shows well into the night. Ever see "The Prestige" starring Michael Caine, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman? Well, over at the Castle, they do it "for real."
And this year was no different. A crowd of celebrities gathered at the entrance to this year’s event, including Los Angeles Music Awards and Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards Founder Al Bowman, who congratulated the establishment for hosting a great party on Oscar night, as well as hosts Ben Roman and John Carvalho. Each year, Carvalho, an advocate for the arts, music and entertainment in West Hollywood, collaborates with Latin recording artist Roman to invite music industry leaders such as Bowman, independent filmmakers, and Castle members to the Oscars Viewing Party. Among those on the guest list over the years have included West Hollywood celebrities such as the multi-talented author, model and civil rights activist Ben Patrick Johnson, comedienne Shawn Pelofsky, Go Gay Today Executives Mike Westman and Ernesto Higuera, and the Grammy considered pop recording artist Kris Searle. Some of the hottest "Andrew Christian" beauty boys have also
attended in the past (fully clothed of course. The Castle has a strict dress code). Other attendees have included the Honorary Mayor of Beverly Hills David Harrison Levi, the Peoples' Mayor of Hollywood Tony Boldi, actor/producer Tom Tangen, movie director Michael Donahue, stuntman Raynald La Rochelle, photographer Raul Esparza III, Inspire U Records President Rich Williams, and jazz artist Tom Slack. This year, actor Said Faraj, actress Marlenne Castaneda, model Lucy Serrano, and recording artist Willie Ames were among those in attendance.
"I think this year's party has been an exciting one for us because we have had so many accomplishments from our guests. In fact, one of our films has qualified for the Oscars," says Carvalho, referring to Suniil Sadarangani's short film "In Transit" (2011; Hanuman Media and Powersource Productions). Aside from its Academy Awards qualification, "In Transit" was an "official selection" at the Palm Springs Film Festival and won 3 Angelino Film Awards, including Best Short Film, after having been nominated in 5 categories. Sadarangani could not attend the event because he was in France filming his new short "Blind." However, movie producer Mike Quiroga, actor Jimmy Dux, and publicists Favi Jaime and Carlos Rojas were in attendance. Quiroga, Dux, and Fernando Gonzales of Sky Pictures collaborated with John Carvalho to submit Sadarangani’s film to the Oscars last August. Jaime and Rojas have been involved in the film’s publicity.Among the other accomplishments was from actor and Guinness Book of World Records holder Bill Blair, who starred in this year’s Best Picture "Argo." Blair has played more special effect make-up characters in a career than any other professional in the entertainment industry, such as a number of the Star Trek shows on TV. It wasn’t clear if he would show up to the Magic Castle as himself or an alien from another planet that would scare security into letting him into the venue without needing to validate parking. As it turns out he was dressed “human” - in the perfect suit for red carpet photos standing not next to a Klingon, but rather the charming Meli Alexander. (Though it’s true he dawned a “Star Trek lapel” for show).
Gracing the red carpet this year were also Mikey Jayy, Executive Producer of the Artists in Music Awards and Hollywood actor and events promoter Nic Creznic. Jayy and Creznic have just come off their successful Artists in Music Awards at the Key Club on Sunset that was the talk of the town right before the Grammys. It is believed that the Magic Castle Oscars Party every year helps a number of recording artists collaborate on movie projects with film producers.
In fact, Ben Roman himself is one of those recording artists. His songs, both originals and covers, have been a hit on MySpace and the World Wide Web and have been featured on original motion picture soundtracks. Roman is also an experienced stage entertainer, having giving excellent performances at both Long Beach Pride, CSW LA Pride, and around Southern California. Roman’s work has appeared on daytime television, reality TV programming, Bravo, A&E, and The Disney Channel. In 2012, he debuted his first English album "Ben Roman" that is available on iTunes. He is presently working on additional music and videos. For more on Ben Roman’s music visit: http://www.benromanonline.com/ .
The elegant Oscars Party at the Magic Castle is expected to continue in upcoming years, pleasing stars and fans alike.

LA Music Awards And The Whisky A Go-Go Present Stevie Hawkins Live Onstage
John Carvalho and Mikey Jayy To be Panelists at Los Angeles Music Awards this Sept. 27, 2012!
Award-winning vocalist and drummer Stevie Hawkins will be
performing for the Los Angeles Music Awards at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go
in Hollywood, California, on September 27, 2012. Stevie is scheduled to perform
at 9:00 PM.Hawkins is nominated for the 22nd Annual LA Music Awards to be held November 15 at the Avalon Theater in two categories: Male Singer/Songwriter of the Year, and Record of the Year, for his critically acclaimed CD titled "What The Funk?". The upcoming LAMA event at the Whisky A Go-Go will be the final voting process for all of its awards categories, and where nine sponsored nominees will perform live. For 130 nominees, the general public will cast their votes via paper ballots, and panelists will make their final judgment and decisions to determine the winners at this event. The event will also present press, publicity and media exposure opportunities for the artists performing at the event.
"2012 has been an exciting year, with lots of great things happening stemming from the What The Funk? album release", says Hawkins. "As always, gracious thanks goes out to my event sponsor ShhhMedia, co-writer Charlotte Hannon, the musicians who performed on the record, radio, and most of all, to God. Being nominated by the LA Music Awards' founders Al Bowman and Susanna Griffie, along with an illustrious advisory panel consisting of music industry icons Mike Curb, producers David Kershenbaum, Ron Nevison, Eddy Kramer and Jack Douglas, as well as the event panelists Mikey Jayy, Liz Rodriguez, Jonathan George, Dr. John Carvalho, and Brad Mercer, is truly an honor and a blessing".
The Whisky is like "the axis mundi" of the music universe with so many of the world's music legends having graced the stage there. As Ray Manzarek of The Doors once said, "gears just fit together and begin to rotate, vibrate together. Playing the Whisky A Go-Go on the first gig in Los Angeles, is a meshing of the gears. Vibrations going on will just come together with something else totally unconscious, bubbling out of the unconscious outside of our control".
This being Hawkins first solo gig in LA, there's no better way to experience the zen globe than at the Whisky A Go-Go. Since 1964, the Whisky A Go-Go has played a role in the establishment of artists' careers including Van Morrison, The Doors, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Frank Zappa and Motley Crue. Almost fifty years later, the Whisky A Go-Go remains an important performance venue for new and upcoming artists. As long as there has been a Los Angeles rock scene, there has been the Whisky A Go-Go.
The Los Angeles Music Awards has an amazing history dating back to 1991. Al Bowman, executive producer of the awards says, "The premise of the LA Music Awards is to forward the music of a new generation and the celebration of entertainment industry icons. We are all about helping independent artists further their careers. Artists like Korn, Dream Theater, Sugar Ray, No Doubt, Machine Head, 311, Black Eyed Peas, Everclear, and Walter Trout are just some of the many artists who have launched their incredibly huge careers at one of our productions".
Other LAMA award recipients throughout the years include President Jimmy Carter, Senator Max Cleland, Jackson Brown, Jamie Hilfiger, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Jaco Pastorious, Stanley Kramer, Douglas Busby, Carol Conner, Eddy Money, Colin Hay, Trini Lopez and Paul Rodgers.
The Whisky A Go-Go is located at 8901 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90069. Doors open at 6:30 PM for the September 27th LAMA event. The show presentation begins at 7:30 PM.

Hollywood Leading Lady and American Icon Diane Keaton Poses for the Cover of AARP The Magazine and Speaks Candidly on Overcoming Bulimia, Life as a Single Mom and Staying "Forever Young"
WASHINGTON, March 22,
2012 -- As one of Hollywood's most beloved actresses, Diane Keaton has seen her share of remarkable Hollywood romances and unimaginable successes. In an
exclusive interview with AARP The Magazine, the Oscar winner speaks
openly on romance, parenting and plastic surgery. Tackling life as a single
parent, the Darling Companion actress shares the challenges of raising
two teenage children at age 66 while managing a busy career. After 40 years as a
leading lady, the actress recently took on modeling, as a spokesperson for
L'Oreal Paris and a line for Chico's, saying, "I never understood the idea that
you're supposed to mellow as you get older."
The following are excerpts from the April/May issue of AARP The Magazine featuring Diane Keaton, available in homes March 24th and online NOW at www.aarp.org/magazine.
On Aging:
"Let me tell you the best part about getting older. The best part is that I'm still here and, because the end is in sight, I treasure it all more. That's why I don't worry about crying in a scene anymore. Now it comes easily. I know the emotion's all there."
"You have to live life that way, you know? Take risks. Do things you can't imagine. 'Cause hey, why not, right?"
"Slowing down isn't something I relate to at all. The goal is to continue in good and bad, all of it. To continue to express myself, particularly. To feel the world. To explore. To be with people. To take things far. To risk. To love. I just want to know more and see more."
On the Possibility of Plastic Surgery:
"I haven't had it, but never say never. Because when you do, you are definitely going to go there. I said I would never have intercourse before I was married, and I did. I said I would never go to a psychiatrist, and I spent much of my life in psychoanalysis. I've done all kinds of things I said I wouldn't do and, of course, now I'm glad. Thrilled."
On Her Love Life:
"I think it was just my whole life. How I responded first to boys and then to men. It had nothing to do with reality."
"Relationships are hard. You're lucky if you find someone."
In regards to romance, "It's not something I can visualize right now. The best relationships develop out of friendships. That's the shame. At this stage I don't correlate any of the friendships I have with sex, and, honestly, once you bring sex into a friendship—Ooh! Whew! Oh!—that's a slippery slope into disaster."
On Parenting:
"As a parent I provide all I can, but I think in the best possible scenario you need to have a man."
"At this point in my life, everything's throwing me punches from left and right, but it's certainly been an amazing adventure."
"I'm very aware that my dad died when he was 68, and my mother was in her early 70s when her brain really started to go. When I think about my kids in their 20s and 30s, and me in my 70s and 80s, I worry about that, definitely. I want to be there for them. I want my body and mind to stay strong, and to share all these life lessons. But I also know they need to have the freedom and independence to learn on their own."
On Her Battle with Bulimia:
"With bulimia, I never expected sympathy or for people to understand. What I cared about was the secret I kept. It felt like a burden. I never told my mother."
"It's amazing how the dark secrets inside us don't matter much to the outside world."
On Her Dream Role:
"A really out-there role where I let it all hang out. Get totally enraged. Go to an extreme. I have not really had that opportunity, and I hope it will happen."

Jumpstart Your Writing Career: The Path for Screenwriters Is a Winding Road
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., March
14, 2012 -- A man enters a screenplay to a competition,
snags an agent, then turns that script into a novel. Another man enters the same
competition, submits his screenplay, lands an agent and creates Latino 101,
which is the highest-rated show on NuVoTV (an English language network targeted
at Latinos).
This is just a couple of the many success stories from the Scriptapalooza
Screenwriting Competition. Turning a script into a novel has actually happened
before, former 1st place Scriptapalooza winner, Chris
Carlyle, whose script, "The Trial of Alex
Lord," was turned into a novel last fall.
Mark Andrushko, the founder of the Scriptapalooza, in its 14th year, promotes and pushes as many writers as he can, however he can. It is not uncommon to have production companies to contact Mark and request certain genres. "I get calls throughout the year from companies looking for material, it doesn't matter if the contest is closed, I try to help as many writers as possible!" said Andrushko.
This competition started as a small grassroots effort and has become an industry powerhouse. Mark is also not threatened by the dozens of overnight competitions that pop up all the time. "Scriptapalooza has remained true to its basic core belief of creating opportunities," said Andrushko. This heartfelt commitment to the undiscovered writer is the reason Scriptapalooza is still around, and why the other competitions usually fade into oblivion just as quickly as they sprouted.
The inscription on the novel The Dougherty Report by Frank Tumminia reads, "To Scriptapalooza, I could have not done this without you. Thanks for the support." And the man who created Latino 101 is Jason Nieves, whose show is in its 3rd season.
A winding road indeed, but if your end result is to be a paid writer, then submitting to Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition is a great start. Screenwriters who enter the competition may not win the grand prize, but rest assured that they have a man in the corner pushing them through the proverbial Hollywood door.
The final deadline to enter your screenplay is April 19, 2012.
The Scriptapalooza Screenplay Competition was founded in 1998 with the goal of discovering and promoting writers and creating opportunities for them in a fiercely competitive entertainment industry.

Bringing Up Oscar - The Story of the Men and Women Who Founded the Academy - by Debra Ann Pawlak
The untold story of the innovative pioneers who helped make movies the preeminent art form of the twentieth century by founding the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences—just in time for the 84th Academy Awards
NEW YORK, Feb. 3, 2012 -- The founders of the now infamous Academy were a motley crew as individuals, but when they first converged in Hollywood, then just a small town with dirt roads, sparks flew and fueled a common dream: to bring artistic validity to their beloved new medium.
Today, movies are so ingrained in our culture it is hard to imagine a time when former cowpunchers, prospectors, vaudevillians, even junk dealers made up the rules as they went along. Prohibition and the Great Depression were keeping everyone on edge, and the business was rife with murders and drug scandals. Something had to happen. And so on January 11th, 1927, thirty-six members of Hollywood's elite and not-so-elite came together at the behest of MGM chief Louis B. Mayer. From Cecil B. DeMille to Mary Pickford, Harry M. Warner, who owned a bike shop before launching the revolutionary "talkie" The Jazz Singer, even Joseph M. Schenk, freed from jail just in time to discover Marilyn Monroe – each guest was more colorful than the last. Although they didn't know it yet, these thirty-six achievers and dreamers gave birth to a golden child.
Who were these movers and shakers who would change movies forever? And what about Oscar, their famous son? He is fast approaching his 100th birthday, and is still the undisputed king of Hollywood. Yet with such dynamic parents, what else could we expect?
In Debra Pawlak's new book, Bringing Up Oscar, readers will learn, as Pawlak tells USA TODAY in an interview, all about these 36 founders. "They were from all walks of life, but in 1927, these were all people who were at the top of their game in Hollywood," Pawlak says. And what was their motivation? "Movies were getting bad press. Temperance groups had succeeded in outlawing alcohol, so they turned their attention to Hollywood. There was no place in the industry where people could come with their disputes, and people in the industry needed to support one another," Pawlak continues in the interview. The Wall Street Journal explains further that "to a great extent, the formation of the Academy was an act of aspirational pride. Within little more than 20 years, the American movie itself had morphed from a parlor amusement into an art form of subtlety, grace and astonishing commercial success. The Academy's founders wanted recognition for their life's work, and they knew they wouldn't get it from New York, whose theatrical and literary hierarchies would never admit that the movies had achieved a standing equivalent to that of the older arts."
Critics, newspapers and industry insiders have all welcomed Pawlak's efforts and bringing the life stories of these great figures in film history to the forefront for a new generation of readers. Michael Deeley, the Academy Award-winning producer of The Deer Hunter and the author of Blade Runners, Deer Hunters, and Blowing the Bloody Doors Off says that Pawlak's book is "a thoroughly researched and very entertaining portrait of the men and women whose energy and talent created today's world-wide American film industry." Booklist has called Bringing Up Oscar a "fascinating account" and Publishers Weekly raved that "by skillfully weaving [these] highlights of Hollywood history throughout this Tinseltown tapestry, Pawlak succeeds in recreating that colorful era when flickers turned into features and silents converted to sound."
ABOUT DEBRA ANN PAWLAK...
Debra Ann Pawlak has spent over ten years writing about Hollywood history. She is the author of Farmington and Farmington Hills, for Arcadia's "Making of America" series, and has written a screenplay about Clara Bow. She lives in southeastern Michigan and is available for interviews at any time.

Tony Bennett, Ray Romano & Phil Donahue Headline St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® 50th Anniversary Gala Benefit On January 7, 2012
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20, 2011 -- Tony Bennett, Ray Romano and Phil Donahue will headline the celebration as stars from the entertainment industry show their support for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's 50th anniversary with a benefit gala in Los Angeles on January 7, 2012. Tony Bennett, a personal friend of St. Jude founder – the late entertainer Danny Thomas – will perform for the star-studded crowd along with Ray Romano, a good friend of the Thomas family and an ardent supporter of St. Jude, to help commemorate what would have been Thomas' 100th birthday. The 50th anniversary gala honors St. Jude's commitment to saving the lives of children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases.
"My father always said there would be no St. Jude without Hollywood," said Tony Thomas, son of Danny Thomas and one of the gala's co-chairs. "He spent the 1950's raising money for his dream, to build a hospital for research and care under one roof for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. He reached out to his entertainment friends, who we now know as legends, to put on benefits around the country to raise money for a hospital yet to be built. Today, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for families across America. My father would be so proud that Hollywood continues to support the hospital."
To honor Thomas' memory, the black tie audience will be entertained by the incomparable Tony Bennett as he performs from his latest album. Ray Romano will perform a special birthday tribute. Phil Donahue, husband of Danny's daughter, actress Marlo Thomas, will emcee the gala with members of the Thomas family on site. The gala will also feature a presentation from the United States Postal Service. Marlo Thomas, Tony Thomas, Terre Thomas and Robert Ellis serve as co-chairs of the event.
"Danny Thomas was an exceptionally generous man and I loved having had the opportunity to know him," said Tony Bennett, "He passed along his giving spirit to his family and I know he would be so proud that his mission to help children through St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has continued on so successfully. I am thrilled to be part of the 50th Anniversary to celebrate this wonderful organization and honor Danny."
Celebrities confirmed to join the celebration include Jason Bateman, Julie Bowen, Diahann Carroll, Cindy Crawford, Marcia Cross, Hilary and Haylie Duff, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Daisy Fuentes, Lance Gross, Jon Hamm, Harry Hamlin, Jared Harris, Mila Kunis, Maggie Lord, Elisabeth Moss, Elise Neal, Marisol Nichols, Jaime Pressly, Raven-Symone, Lisa Rinna, Amanda Seyfried, William Shatner, Cybill Shepherd, John Slattery, Alison Sweeney, Amber Valletta , Patrick Warburton, and heroic pilot Captain Chesley Sullenberger and astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The 50th anniversary celebration will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 7, 2012.
"As we embark on the year-long celebration of the opening of St. Jude 50 years ago, it is only fitting that we pay tribute at this special event to Danny Thomas, our founder and our most passionate champion," said Rick Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude. "If Danny were still with us today, I know he would be touched by the army of supporters who have embraced St. Jude and joined the fight against childhood cancer and other deadly diseases."
Founded in 1962 with a mission to save the lives of children everywhere, St. Jude visionary and founder, entertainer Danny Thomas wanted to create a hopeful place that was accepting of all children whether or not the family could afford treatment. Today, St. Jude is the only children's hospital where a child is never turned away if a family can't pay and no family pays St. Jude for anything. For 50 years, St. Jude has made great discoveries in how to treat deadly childhood diseases like cancer, saving the lives of kids across America. Research at St. Jude has changed how the world treats leukemia, brain tumors, and sickle cell, pushing survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent in 1962 to almost 80 percent today.
